EarthQuaker Devices Hoof Fuzz:
The EarthQuaker Devices Hoof Fuzz is a no-fuss, easy to use device capable of sounds from warm gritty overdrive to a huge sustaining fuzz. It's a germanium/silicon hybrid muff-style fuzz (based on the old green russian muff) with massive amounts of volume on tap and smooth amp-like sustain. It has a tighter, cleaner sound than most muffs, which makes it more cutting and discernible in a band setting. The shift control changes the frequency response of the tone control, mainly on the treble side (but takes out the mud on the bass side). Clockwise scoops the mids and counterclockwise enhances the mids. When the shift control is set dead center it has roughly the same frequency response as the original 3 knob hoof (almost flat).

HARMONY CENTRAL USER REVIEW 8/21/2008:
"I'm using the Hoof with a Dr Z Maz 18 Non-reverb head through various cabs. I really like my telecaster with this pedal. The pedal is VERY quiet...especially for a fuzz pedal. There's gobs of voulme and sustain on tap in this pedal. I purchased this pedal after hearing Dan from the Black Keys has been spotted using one. It can do anything from a very mild fuzz to a pretty extreme "wall of fuzz" type tone. The bottom end is VERY tight. Also, this pedal cleans up pretty well for Muff type fuzz. You can roll back the volume on your guitar and get some great light breakup tones that way."

"Best Big Muff type pedal I have ever used. I am using a Tele (GFS Dream-90 in the neck position, Dimarzio Fast Track T in the bridge) into an Epiphone Valve Jr head and 1x12 cab, and it sounds incredible. The tone control is VERY useful and provides a huge range of tonal options. TONS of volume on tap. Subtle fuzz can be achieved using your guitar's volume knob (turning it down), but most of the settings will give you anywhere from average amounts of fuzz to huge wall of fuzz. Don't quote me on this, but I think I heard/read somewhere that this fuzz is a hybrid germanium/silcon fuzz unit. Very musical fuzz that can be very versatile if you know what you're doing. And guess what- this thing works GREAT for bass guitar too!"
